I thought I’d share a snippet of what I’m writing for Nanowrimo. I haven’t figured out a title for this yet but I know that it is an urban fantasy though there isn’t any magic in this snippet.
Now I need to quit procrastinating and get back to work!
The letter gave a phone number for an uncle she vaguely remembered.
Even then Taylor procrastinated for several days before she finally settled down to call.
“Hello?” A male voice answered.
“Hi. Is this Peter Morgan?”
” Whatever it is I’m not buying it. ”
” Wait! I’m not selling anything.” But he had already hung up.
Taylor hadn’t wanted to make this call in the first place, but now that she made it she didn’t want her uncle to ignore her. She would force the man to acknowledge her, even if it was only once.
Taylor called back but the phone went to voicemail. After hanging up, Taylor called back again. And again.
“Damn it, I told you I wasn’t interested.” Her uncle growled when he finally answered the phone.
“Thomas Morgan.” Taylor said, hoping that she would get the words out before the line went dead again. The silence on the other end caused Taylor to think that he’d hung up on her again.
“What the hell does Thomas have to do with you?” The voice surprised Taylor. The silence had convinced her that her uncle had hung up the phone on her again.
“He was my father.” Taylor wasn’t sure this angry man would believe her.
“Taylor?” He said immediately. It was nice to know that he at least hadn’t forgotten her name.
This wasn’t going anything like any of the conversations Taylor had imagined in her head.
